Tuan Hj Nik A Majid, a Malaysian aged 57, recently ended his 36 years as an illustrious banker in HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad, an international bank. He is the Advisor for GRC Consulting Services and presently on the Board of Tabung Warisan Negeri Selangor, an investment arm for the state of Selangor since August 2012. He graduated with a Banking Diploma from the Associate Institute of Bankers (AIB), United Kingdom in 1981 and later completed his Masters in Business Administration.

He began his Managerial career at HSBC’s branch in Hong Kong as a Management Trainee and had been posted to various positions in HSBC as Branch Manager, Senior Manager Corporate Business, Regional Manager Consumer, Manager Credit Risk and Loan Regulation, Manager Administration and Recovery and others.  The functions tightly involved in banking laws and regulations, compliance, risk, financial analysis and others. One of his many great achievements was being involved in the Organization and Transformation of Banking Programmes that enabled HSBC to reduce the number of employee by more than 30% and other work improvements. 

With his vast experience, he was appointed as Senior Manager Sales and Distribution in 2006; responsible for managing all the sales channels involving over 2000  Managers and other personnel direct and indirectly. In addition, he was also responsible for the marketing and managing of the Bank’s Wealth and Investment Products and Portfolios. He was then again in 2007 involved in another reorganization and transformation of the banks services, sales and supporting roles that contributed to the converting and promoting greater automation which lead other banks to adapt our programme.

His last post was as HSBC’s Director for Strategic Business Development, a position reporting to the office of Deputy Chairman and CEO of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad. He worked closely with Top Teams in Federal and State Governments, Government Linked Companies as well as Government Agencies such as MITI, MIDA, Matrade, SSIC and SEDCs which resulted to new business opportunities and also enlarge the bank’s branding locally and internationally. These strong bonding relationship further assist and support the Government initiatives in bringing new business through various Corridors and Economic Transformation Programmes (Iskandar, EAEC, SCORE, Sabah EAC, NEAC and many others).

He attended various high profile courses, forums and seminars in the country as well as abroad, in the field of Management, Economic, Business Transformation, Islamic Banking and others. He is also actively acting as the moderator in numerous Economic Conferences. At peak, he was selected to represent HSBC Malaysia at the World’s Conference held in Bermuda in 2002.
In social activities, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees (alternative) for Yayasan Seni Berdaftar, a Government approved NGO body, promoting the preservation of Malaysia’s arts and crafts that supports local artists, traditional arts and crafts.

He is also currently a Managing Director and Financial Consultant to several companies especially to new entrants to the country.
